Setting Up Notification Lists

Notification Lists control where your monitoring notifications are sent. This article walks through the step-by-step process of creating and assigning notifiers to a monitoring job. When creating a new monitor you can either start from scratch or assign any existing notification lists.

The basic steps to configure your monitoring job(s) can be found on their respective Knowledge Base articles:

We'll use a TCP job for this example though the same steps apply for a monitoring job of any other type.

In addition to basic email alerts NS1 also delivers notifications directly to these 3rd party services (click for Knowledge Base entries on the setup of each):

You can also configure your own custom webhook or email us at [email protected] to inquire about a new integration.

Create and Attach Notification Lists

Once your monitoring job has been configured, open the new job and click on the Notifiers tab.

You have two options now: either attach a previously created Notification List or create your own set of notifiers specific to this job. If you choose to start from scratch, you can always save this new notification scheme as a list that can be reused for other jobs. Let's go through the configuration process for both options.

Attach Notification List

Click the Attach Notification List button and choose from your list of previously created notification schemes. This will automatically bring up all the notifiers associated with this pre-existing list and assign them to this monitor.

This particular Notification List has email, PagerDuty, and HipChat notifiers associated with it, so all three channels will be alerted upon any change in status for this monitor. You can now add more notifiers to this list by clicking "Add Notifier", however, this will result in the new notifier being added to every monitoring job for which "My Notification List" is currently in use.

Simply click "Detach From 'My Notification List' List" to prevent this from happening. Any further edits made will not impact any other monitors.

The save as reusable notification list option will allow for you to reuse the current list across other monitors.

 Add Notifier(s)

If you would like to start from scratch, simply click "Add Notifier" and choose a notification type from the drop-down menu. This will prompt for the information required to generate the new notification.

You can continue creating more notifiers and, if you wish, save this set of notifiers as a reusable list ("My New List" in this example):
